Live From STD Engage: Perceptions of Stigma with Amanda Dennison

By Group December 11, 2019

In this special episode, Courtney Brame of Something Positive for Positive People spoke to Amanda Dennison of NCSD (National Coalition of STD Directors) about her own journey of dealing with herpes-related stigma.

NCSD is a sex positive organization representing health department STD directors, their support staff, and community-based partners across 50 states, seven large cities, and eight US territories. They are also behind STD Engage, an annual event that brings together state and local STD prevention and sexual health professionals, and their community-based partners and allies.

Amanda, who was diagnosed with hsv-2 in 2015, talks about how despite the fact that NCSD encourages community members to engage on the topic of STDs, nobody from the organization itself was sharing their own stories. So this spring, in conjunction with STD Awareness Month, she finally shared hers.
